Jazz Band II

Jazz II is for 7th and 8th grade students who have at least one year of experience playing in one of the concert bands, but do not necessarily have any jazz experience. Students who don’t play traditional big band instruments are still encouraged to participate by doubling on an instrument in the same family. Many woodwind players double on saxophone, horn, tuba; euphonium players double on trumpet and trombone; others learn to play instruments in the rhythm section.

Students in Jazz II focus on learning to play and improvise in the many different styles of jazz including swing, Latin, funk, rock and more. Jazz II performs concerts throughout the year at Eisenhower, Elmcroft Assisted Living Center, and the Albuquerque Jazz Festival, where they have consistently received superior ratings.
